To Kill A Mockingbird Assignment

Okay... So we had this assignment in English that we had to do and I just thought I'd share it!

To Kill a Mockingbird Project

Character Interview
Pretend you are a reporter interviewing a character from the novel (think of questions a reporter like Barbra Walters would ask, or even Oprah Winfrey). Choose a character you would like to interview. Write a list of interview questions. Write responses to your questions you believe your chosen character would make. Remember, the character's responses should be consistent with what you know about the character's personality. You must have at least 20 interview questions, and both the questions and answers must be in compete sentences.

Atticus Finch

Why did you choose to defend Tom Robinson, instead of doing what any other Maycomb citizen would have done?                                                                                    I felt like it was my duty and that it was morally right for me to do it. Just because the city of Maycomb, my friends, and even my family thought it was ridiculous, shouldn't mean that I do what they consider socially acceptable. There's a line between socially unacceptable and morally incorrect; in my case it was considered socially unacceptable. However, my morals and what I consider as the right thing to do comes above all, and I think I did the right thing.
Did you expect the outcome of the court to happen as it did?                                          I wouldn't say that I expected it, but I wasn't surprised by the jury's decision. I think I understood that it was going to conclude like it had, but I still hoped that it had turned out for the better, and Tom would have been found not guilty.
Did you ever expect Tom to be considered not guilty?                                                     Well like I said before, I hoped he would have been considered not guilty, and for a moment there I thought Mayella was going to end up telling the truth, but once I realized she wasn't going to break, I pretty much knew what the jury was going to decide.
Do you think that you will be getting any more trouble from the Ewell's?                         Now that both Tom Robinson is dead and Bob Ewell are dead, I don't expect to have any trouble from the Ewell's. I believe that they have no reason, and that even if they did, without Bob they wouldn't act.
Do you agree that you favor Scout over Jem? If so, why?                                             I love both of my children, and nothing will ever change that. I believe that Scout needs more attention with the personality she has, and I believe Jem enjoy's his time alone. I don't believe that I favor Scout, but that I only interact with her more.
Do you consider Calpurnia to be a part of your family?                                                    Calpurnia is the closest thing that my children have to a real mother. Without her, I don't have any idea how we would have and will survive. So to answer your question, she is part of the family. No one could replace her.
Did your parents have the same morals and teach you the ones that you have today?                                                                                                                            Both my parents taught me to treat each individual as an equal to yourself. However, prejudice and racism was both expected and encouraged to a higher degree than it is in the generation of my children. It was more difficult to break away from the socially accepted opinions that you were suppose to form, and creat your own.
Where you ever hesitant or afraid off "Boo" Radley?                                                    No, and and confident when I say that. Mr. Radley was a withdrawn and reserved man, and I respected that to the best of my abilities. I knew that it must have been hard for him to have had so many other citizens be terrified and cautious of him, and I didn't want to add to the number.
Why did you decide to become an attorney? What prompted you to do so?                  I always had a passion for the court system and legal maters. While I was growing up, the justice system always seemed to catch my interest, but not in the way I hoped it would. The justice system was warped and corrupt, so it caught my interest to do something about it and change it.
Do you ever plan on remarrying? Why or why not?                                                           My wife is and was my one and only wife. She was the mother of my children and the woman of my heart and no one can replace her,
Would you consider Maycomb to be racist? Would you consider yourself to be one of those people? Why or why not?                                                                                       The people of Maycomb are indeed prejudice against the minorities, as is the rest of this world. I, myself try not to fall into this category; while it's one thing to notice that someone is black, it's another to judge him for it.
What is your opinion on Scout and Jem's teacher?                                                         I believe that she is a very knowledgable woman, but also very naive to the people and ways of Maycomb. I believe she is an intelligent woman and will learn quickly.
Even though it must be hard to raise two children on your own, did you ever think about sending them away?                                                                                               Absolutely not. Even though their mother died and I am having to raise them on my own, they are still my children and it is my responsibility but also a privilege to have them in my life. They can be like any children can be, mischievous and irresponsible, but they are still my children and it is my right to take care of them.
If someone was found guilty of rape, what punishment do you think they should receive?                                                                                                                            I believe that there is no punishment that is both humane and severe enough for punishment over the most heinous crime imaginable. Serving time should be expected and given.
Do you think Tom Robinson did try to escape, or do you think it was murder?                 I think that Tom was hopeless and couldn't live with the inaccurate title of 'rapist'. I believe that he was killed, yes. But I think it was a desperate decision of suicide that killed Tom Robinson. Even though the guard had the gun, it was his desperate actions and own conscious decision that killed him,
What is your opinion on different punishments for different races?                                  Like I had said in the court room, we are all equal in court. Therefore, punishments should be the same for every individual.
Can you describe to me how you felt with your closing speech for Tom?                       I was desperate and passionate in getting my point across and showing the jury of the truth.
Do you think the outcome would have been different if there was a change of venue? Why or why not?                                                                                                  Absolutely, because that would make the jury different.
Do you feel like you failed the Robinson family, or do you feel like you did all you could do?                                                                                                                          In all honesty, I don't understand how any attorney couldn't feel that way. I know I did  my best and my heart goes out to the Robinson family, but I did fail them.
Would you have killed Bob Ewell?                                                                                      No matter how much I considered that man guilty, it would not be my decision to take the life of someone else.
